As an essayist, I am a strong creative non-fiction writer and memoirist. As a freelance writer, I have a keen interest in profiles and articles that delve deeply into politics, culture and identity. I am an adept lifestyle and design writer, especially for publications that focus on the human story. Occasionally I work with private clients to write their personal or corporate story. When not marketing my book, Little Yellow House, I am writing a novel.
In my non-writing life I have worked broadly: as an inner-city non-profit director, a political advisor to government ministers, an event planner and communications consultant. In my work as a facilitator, I meld these diverse leadership experiences with my writer's listening and storytelling skills, helping organizations discover their unique path through facilitated strategic and project planning sessions. I am trained in the IAP2 method of public engagement and am working toward my facilitation certification.
As a public speaker I use humour and story to explore how we find connection and hope in our neighbourhoods. I am happy to tailor a keynote or breakout session that will meet your organization's needs related to: empowering community development, just urban renewal, or the nature of home. I have spoken to hundreds of groups through my past positions and look forward to delving deeper with your audiences into the issues that shape our connections and communities.
